Warlander: Why you should give it a try

Warlander, developed by Toylogic, is a highly anticipated new game that takes the combat elements of NieR Replicant and cranks it up a notch. With two army battles and five army free-for-alls, players will be sorted into squads with different roles, each with squad objectives that award personal points for contribution. The ultimate goal of the game is to destroy the enemy’s core.

The game currently features three main classes – Warrior, Cleric, and Mage – each with a unique set of abilities. The Warrior is a damage dealer, the Cleric can heal and offer small buffs, and the Mage does long-range damage and causes AoE havoc. The minimap in Warlander is an innovative feature that ensures players are always visible to each other, making strategy a macro-level effort.

Progression is done through random drops and title unlocks in-game, where character upgrades increase the available points for equipment. Players can create a “deck” of units in the main menu, choosing a combination of titled and untitled characters for versatility and power. While Warlander does have a cash shop, ToyLogic has made it a point to not make the game “Pay to Win”, with premium currency mostly spent on cosmetics and normal currency used to buy gear with random attributes.

In conclusion, Warlander offers a unique and refreshing take on action games with its combination of strategy, class abilities, and progression methods. The developers value player feedback, as evidenced by the active Discord. If you’re a fan of hack-and-slash games, Warlander is free on steam today!
